Unique carp fishing festival is unveiled

n all-new festival concept combining the social aspects of carp fishing with product presentations, demonstrations and even live music has been launched under the banner Carp In The Park. Set to take place on Saturday and Sunday, July 25th and 26th, at Billing Aquadrome in Northamptonshire, the event will feature some of the biggest names in carp fishing – both anglers and suppliers – with non-selling manufacturers being offered FREE ground space. The weekend is based around entertaining visiting anglers, with slide shows and Q&A

sessions involving the likes of Ian Chillcott, Adam Penning, Frank Warwick and Dave Lane, who have all confirmed their participation. Visitors will be able to sit on their chairs close to the giant outdoor bar and catering areas and watch all the action on a 12 sq m LCD screen, while exclusive access to two lakes and a stretch of the River Nene will allow for exhibitor demonstrations, rig-tying clinics or even ‘trybefore-you-buy’sell-throughs. In common with many festivals, the organiser – DHP Ltd – is looking to welcome a local band to the stage during the venture. The idea is to attract keen carp anglers and their families to stay for the two days, pitching

up in their own bivvies or tents, with low entrance fees to maximise attendance. Although the organiser believes that Carp In The Park will be a big success, to minimise risk for manufacturers they’ll be given ground space free of charge, enabling them to provide their own marquees and staff. In return they’ll be asked to organise an agreed attraction such as a Q&A session, casting demonstration, competition, bait-boat race or similar along with providing a raffle prize. Companies wishing to sell direct will pay a flat fee of just £500 per brand or £250 for baitonly firms. ➲ Continued on page 6. www.tandgmagazine.com

Turning the rod world upside down

T

he world of rod building has been thrown into chaos this month with the loss of Zziplex founder Terry Carroll and questions over the future of Conoflex, ironically a firm that Terry helped set up. Terry was held in high esteem by everyone in the industry – his vision and determination, coupled with enviable casting skills and understanding of how rods worked, contributed greatly to the advancement of fishing rods and carbon-fibre blanks in particular. He has left a legacy at rod manufacturer Zziplex that looks set to continue in the capable hands of right-hand man Lee Islam. Sadly, though, his contribution to the founding of another key player in the rod-blank market – Conoflex – may end up lost in the mists of time. For reasons that have not yet become clear, the firm he started more than 40 years ago with Michael McManus is on the verge of shutting down. Indeed, a deadline had already been set for the doors to close at the end of March after a failed contingency plan, but, at the 11th hour, it seems that someone has thrown the company a potential lifeline. Whether this is enough to save the ailing manufacturer and restore it to its former glory remains to be seen, but it’s a real stroke of bad luck to see two rod-blank

p004-005_T&G_05_Contents+Measom.indd 1

manufacturers go through such tough times in the space of a couple of weeks.

Licence to shoot So we’ve finally seen a rise in shotgun and firearm licence fees… and thankfully common sense has prevailed on the part of the Home Office. As I write this the new fees have come into effect, with shotgunlicence fees rising from £50 to £79.50 and renewals from £40 to £49.The granting of a firearm certificate has gone up from £50 to £88, with renewals increasing to £62 (from £40). A registered firearm dealer’s licence has increased by £50 to £200. In some cases – for example where variations are required or where a licence is lost and needs replacing – the cost has actually been reduced! Given that the last price hike was way back in 2001 – and that initial discussion had suggested that the fees would be considerably higher – we can all breathe a sigh of relief that the evidence submitted to the Home Office by our governing and campaigning bodies and by dealers and shooters has helped it come to a fair appraisal of the situation. All of those who were involved deserve a pat on the back, and, at a time when our faith in the powers that be to support shooting needs restoring, this is good news all round.

Trade mourns the loss of Zziplex boss The tackle industry has been remembering Terry Carroll, the founder and boss of rod maker Zziplex, who lost a short but brave fight against cancer in mid-March. As well as being at the forefront of casting, holding British Records many times, and a highly successful long-range cod fisherman dating back to the 1960s and 1970s, it was as the rod developer and man behind Zziplex that he was best known for by the trade. Terry was the inventor of world-renowned rods, for both fishing and casting, and was one of those who worked on the first carbon-fibre fishing rods, defying the critics of the day to produce a range of items that continue to sell well today. Terry’s involvement with the commercial side of rod manufacture really began with Davenport & Fordham, where he produced designs that were way ahead of their time – indeed, the Super Surflite became a classic. He went on to found Zziplex with his wife, Barbara, in the spring of 1980, and, until relatively recently, every rod produced by the factory was made by Terry himself. His unique ability to combine casting skill and understanding with the use of modern blank materials to produce top-quality blanks was envied by many.

Terry Carroll’s casting skills contributed to the formation of Zziplex.

Such was his command of this sector that it wasn’t uncommon during matches to see up to 90 per cent of competitors using Zziplex blanks. Terry also partnered Michael McManus as they started up the Cono-flex rod company. Cono-flex was perhaps his bestknown venture, and with Mike as his partner the company grew from strength to strength.

Barbara issued a statement on behalf of her husband following the sad loss. It said: “It was Terry’s greatest wish that the company we started together should continue, and he made it his final project that Zziplex would continue after his death. Lee Islam, who has been Terry’s right-hand man for many years, will continue his mentor’s work.”

A limited number of retailers – nominated by a ‘brand’– will also be able to attend, with prices set accordingly. The only brands that will be available to buy over the weekend are those from exhibitors. Organising-staff member Dean Rothery explained: “All carp anglers love a social, so what better than being outside for the day and being able to bivvy up for the night and be entertained by some of the biggest names/brands in carp fishing? “With the help of our exhibitors, we’re planning on running plenty of interactive events and creating a real social event.

“We’re thinking: ‘Music festival meets the carper’.” Those attending can rely on the existing Billing Aquadrome security patrols that are used to dealing with large-scale events but will need to bring their own marquees and shedding (or hire it from the organiser). At present, the only power solutions available will be those that individual exhibitors bring in the form of small generators. ❱❱ To find out more, call Dean Rothery on 07866 721554 or e-mail [email protected]

Questions marks over Cono-flex Despite fears that rod-blank maker Cono-flex was due to close at the end of March, a dramatic last-ditch move has been made to secure the firm’s future. The company, which has been making rods in East Sussex for more than 40 years, looked set to shut its doors a month ago (March 31st) after a contingency plan, which had been running for several months, finally stalled. But as Tackle & Guns went to press, it’s emerged that an 11thhour proposal has been received to try to keep it going in some shape or form. However, more details were unavailable immediately because Aidan McManus and his team were still working on the details when contacted. At the same time

they were busy fulfilling the final orders on their books. Aiden told T&G: “Technically the company closed down at the end of March and we’ve just been finishing off the final orders after our previous contingency plan didn’t work. “However, immediately prior to Easter we received an expression of interest in keeping it going and are currently exploring that option, so everything is currently up in the air.” Cono-flex started as Carroll McManus in 1972 as a partnership between Terry Carroll and Michael McManus in Hailsham, East Sussex, moving to a purpose-built factory in Crowborough and adopting the now-household name.

Kiddy set to grow up further There’s plenty happening at tackle wholesaler Kiddy over the coming months, with a new catalogue, strong brands and more launches. Since it was established in 1955, this wholly family owned business has become one of the leading independent suppliers of sea fishing tackle in the UK. Its personal, efficient service combined with very competitive prices compared with other wholesalers has stood it in good stead, as has its 50-plus years of experience, helping it create its own brands of sea gear specifically for UK waters. Its 2015/2016 catalogue contains its complete portfolio of items, including its award-winning in-house brands like Sidewinder, alongside well-known global powerhouses such as Savage Gear and Imax. The team is also offering the Japanese brand Nomura for the first time, promising absolute quality at great prices. The Sidewinder was voted Best Lure Brand 2014 by readers of Total Sea Fishing magazine, and more honours look set to follow. David Kiddy said: “We develop this range of gear with local commercial anglers based in Dartmouth and Plymouth, and their expert knowledge and advice has led to some fantastic items for this year.

“Don’t miss our superb Rattleback and Super Weedless Minnow lures – both fantastic complements to our range.” As if that wasn’t enough, the firm has also unveiled its latest inhouse brand, SeaTech. David added: “We’re delighted to be able to offer a whole range of equipment under our SeaTech brand for this year. Some highlights include our comprehensive range of terminal tackle and our superb SeaTech Outlaw reels and combo kits, which are fantastic value for this quality. Retail-finance option boost for dealers Dealers are set to benefit from new laws making it even easier to offer limited retail-finance options to their customers. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has said that it no longer needs to issue authorisation to firms wanting to offer interest-free finance of up to 12 months. The new legislation states that a credit agreement will be exempt if it’s repayable by no more than 12 (monthly) instalments, is a borrower-lender-supplier agreement, for a fixed amount and that it involves no charges or interest or is secured on land. Tony Jones, director of ActSmart, the business-support organisation, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for retailers who have ‘dabbled’ with the idea of offering their customers the ability to spread the cost but have been put off by the licensing-fee process in the past.” Businesses currently FCAauthorised and meeting these criteria should not cancel their authorisation unless their retail

finance supplier has confirmed that it has made the necessary system amendments to incorporate these changes. Retailers are recommended that if they operate on an interim permission that they proceed with their full authorisation before their ‘landing slot’ expires. If you don’t currently offer finance and only intend on offering nought per cent interestfree credit up to 12 months (as above), call ActSmart to start your application to offer retail finance.

While retailers no longer need FCA authorisation to offer this option, ActSmart and its partner V12 have created a wide range of product options which enable retailers to offer their customers different APRs and protect their margins. In order to fully utilise all the product options available, you will still require FCA authorisation, which costs £100. ❱❱ To find out more, call Actsmart on 0845 618 7256 or visit www. takeitoutdoors.co.uk

Sentz Tick-Off is said to the best in class, with a proven protection time of more than nine hours. What’s more, it is totally odourless, so game won’t sense it, and it can be applied to skin, fabrics and even other animals, such as hunting dogs and horses, to protect them too. The solution is based on something called IR3535, a topical, synthetic repellent developed for long-lasting protection and which has been used in other sectors for more than 30 years. Biodegradable and similar in structure to naturally occurring repellents, it is said to be nontoxic, not irritating to the skin and highly effective. Meeting all international regulations, Sentz is now available as both an aerosol and a pump spray. Sentz Liquid Solutions is now looking for distributors in the UK. ❱❱ To find out more contact Sentz Liquid Solutions at info@sentzwaterproofing-eu or visit www. sentz-waterproofing.eu

Cartridge-display firm has designs on growth It has been a busy year or two for UK-based cartridge-display manufacturer and gift supplier TMB Designs, with increased product lines and the move to larger premises. The new facility gives Trevor Bailey the space he needs to hold a much larger stock inventory as his overseas business continues to expand. It’s a far cry from Trevor’s beginnings 15 years ago when he set up TMB Designs, producing a small range of cartridge displays from his garage in Pershore, Worcestershire. These were sold at country and game fairs and, gradually, as the range of displays grew, in 2005 the firm moved to a small unit on farmland just outside Pershore, giving it more space to introduce new ranges of shooting-related giftware, including engraved glassware and resin figurines. A change of direction in 2007 saw TMB Designs shift from retail to wholesale selling in the UK. It also meant that the company began to attend international trade fairs in the USA (SHOT Show) and Germany (IWA) and became the distributor for an American company, which added several new lines to its product range, including wall hangers, clocks and tin signs. Since then the portfolio has grown steadily and

in late 2014 it moved to even larger premises, which now give it the space to hold a larger inventory of stock, which has become especially important after TMB took on its own distributor in Moscow, Russia. Trevor said: “We now supply goods throughout the UK, Europe, USA and Russia. The cartridge displays and some other items are still handmade on the premises, so continuing the personal touch and attention to detail. We are still continuing to increase our ranges year on year, too.” ❱❱ To find out more call 01905 840022 or visit www. cartridgedisplays.com

Fin-Nor gets teeth into boat backing Zebco Europe’s highperformance Fin-Nor brand is sponsoring charter boat Bite Adventures out of Penzance (Cornwall). Skippered by Robin (Chippy) Chapman, one of the southwest’s most respected charter-boat skippers, it has a fantastic record of achievement, with up to 25 different species regularly landed in a day.

Indeed, last year it accounted for a 192lb blue shark – the biggest of the season in the UK. UK director Tim Wildermoth explained: “Having had prior experience of Fin-Nor quality and knowing how tough and durable the products are, Robin was keen that we would be his preferred sponsorship partner. “When we realised his excellent reputation and catches

of hard-fighting fish, including many Cornish records, we also realised that it was the perfect partnership for our highperformance brand. “We look forward very much to this coming season’s results and Bite Adventures’ anglers experiencing the quality and performance of Fin-Nor products in dealing with many more specimen fish.”

Frenzee plans expansion for 2015 After a successful 2014 season, tackle firm Frenzee says its growth and expansion plans are firmly on course as it caters for increased demand by expanding its sales team. Its aggressive stance on backing the retail sector seems to have paid off as account numbers have soared over the last 12 months. Popularity for the brand has shown consistent growth, with more anglers adopting its individual and original styles. Product development, as ever, is high on the agenda for Frenzee as the awareness to meet the demand of the everchanging market is realised. Andy Oldham from Rotherham joins to cover its northern territory. Andy is well known as a top match angler and will support Glyn Reynolds in retail sales.

Sasta set for UK push Following a strong IWA show in Germany, Finnish clothing brand Sasta is set for UK expansion. Sasta’s sales director Juha Latvala told T&G: “The IWA show felt a little slower overall but, for us, it was extremely busy and positive. Outside of some of our key markets, we seem to be the ‘best kept secret of the industry’, as when people hear about our long traditions and see our products they are impressed. “Just based on IWA, we will be opening some new export markets for autumn/winter 2015/16. Alongside these, we are very focused on the relaunch in the UK as we have a very good reputation on the market among retailers and consumers and we want to rebuild those relationships.” To find out more contact Simon Parry on 01623 794449 / 07871 550003.

COAST gets tough with torch launches UK dealers should be on the lookout for the ultra-tough COAST Polysteel torches, due here in the next month or so. This year’s IWA Show in Nuremberg saw the US brand unveil its range of three hand-held torches offering classic features and super-heavy-duty construction. Each torch features highpowered CREE LEDs, a comprehensive five-year warranty, twist focusing from long-range spot beams to ultra-wide flood beams and COAST’s patented optics, producing flawless beam quality, with no shadows, rings, blemishes or dark spots usually associated with adjustable-focusing torches. The Polysteel name derives from the fact that each torch has a stainless-steel core, capable of withstanding the toughest and most demanding of working environments! This core is covered by a fibreglass reinforced polymer outer casing, specifically shaped for comfort and grip and made to withstand damage if or when dropped or subjected to impact. The three models – 200, 400 and 600 – are powered by 3xAAA, 4xAAA and 4xAA batteries respectively and can run for up to 35 hours on low setting. The super-tough design went through crushproof testing, including being run over by the caterpillar tracks of a full-sized earth mover/excavator, while drop tests included being dropped from the top of a ladder onto a steel saw table, and the waterproof test saw the models used to inspect tugboat lines in saltwater. The products are fully waterproofed to IPX4 standard, tested fully submerged to three metres for 40 minutes. All three torches will be supplied in COAST’s ‘try-me’ retail clam packs. ❱❱ Call BBB Investments on 01858 410551 or visit www.bbbleisureproducts.co.uk

Tackle franchise backs coaching scheme Tackle Trailer, the UK’s first fishing-tackle and bait franchise, is to sponsor the Angling Trust’s (AT’s) coaching programme for 2015. The company, which retails a range of fishing tackle and bait via bespoke mobile stores, will supply the AT’s regular Level 2 coaches with rods, poles, reels and luggage to be used at a series of game fairs, country shows and other events throughout the UK. Speaking at The Big One fishing show in Farnborough, Tackle Trailer director Steve Calder said: “We attend a number of shows during the course of a year, often exhibiting alongside the AT – so we’ve had the opportunity to watch its regular coaches, Phil and Rod, at first hand. “Both guys work tirelessly throughout each event, providing taster sessions on the feeder, float and pole, both to newcomers and, increasingly, ‘returners’ to the sport. “In a typical weekend, Rod and Phil will probably work with 60 to 100 beginner anglers, taking them through the basics and opening their eyes to the many styles of fishing, including coarse, game and sea, that are available to

them, and to the opportunities that invariably exist close to their homes.” In fact, during 2014 the team introduced almost 1,000 people to the sport – which is no small accomplishment given the downward trend in participation, among younger people in particular. With this in mind, during 2015 – in addition to the regular programme of shows and fairs – the AT will also be running a series of Family Fishing Days at various locations around East Anglia. Steve added: “Ultimately the

future of the sport is dependent on getting more people involved – be they pre-teens or pensioners. “So we’re really excited to be involved with the AT’s coaching projects. “We’ll also be encouraging our franchisees to support initiatives such as this on a local level, too. We’ll do whatever it takes to put fishing, in all its forms, back on the map.”

Daystate’s Tony Belas (left) congratulates Mick McTighe.

Winner on target for Daystate prize As part of Daystate’s proud sponsorship of the Midlands Hunter Series Winter League airgun competition, a prizewinner received a new Mk4 air rifle. Supporting the launch of the series since 2009, this year the company increased its sponsorship to reflect the series’ success and the great support offered by the organising team. To be entered into the ‘raffle’ to win this great prize, airgunners needed to have participated in at least four of the six rounds. Tony Belas from Daystate drew the winning ticket at the final round, held at Kibworth Shooting Ground, with the lucky holder being Mick McTighe, shown collecting his prize from the league’s Greg Hensman (pictured right).

Des Shipp gets anglers to ‘Think Fishing’ England international Des Shipp has joined forces with Daventry-based magazine publisher David Hall Publishing (DHP) to produce Think Fishing With Des Shipp, a new monthly HD video accompanied by an e-mag. Labelled as ‘the magazine for the thinking angler’, Think Fishing is aimed at match anglers (open or club) and pleasure anglers who are looking to delve a little deeper into their fishing to maximise results. Des revealed: “I’ve wanted to produce this type of product for quite a while. Until now the right opportunity just hadn’t come along, but when DHP approached me with the idea I jumped at the chance to be a part of the project. “With DHP’s background and pedigree in producing

magazines and videos, it was a no-brainer for me because I knew that the final product would be top class.” Dave Wesson, DHP’s multimedia manager, added: “When we decided to produce this, we needed the right angler to be the figurehead, and Des was the perfect choice. “After discussing the ideas of both parties, we decided to go

down a slightly different route with the theme of the video and e-mag. Des is a thinking angler and is very successful because he makes key, correct decisions during a match or pleasure session… and he makes them at the right time. “The only way to get into Des’ head and reveal his thought processes throughout a session was to actually follow him for the duration of a session and record everything he does, then explain why he changes baits, feeding, rigs or tactics at various times to keep his catch rate going. It’s a unique look into the mind of not just one of the best anglers in the UK but also the world.” Issue one of Think Fishing features a 57-minute HD video filmed at Tunnel Barn Farm in Warwickshire and a 46-page e-mag. The product can be downloaded from www.thinkfishing.co.uk for £2.99.

Airgun donation helps introduce youngsters to sport Firearms and ammunition distributor Edgar Brothers has donated seven air pistols, nine air rifles, riflescopes and airgun pellets to the Lincolnshire Small-bore Rifle Association (LSRA). Representing 30 shooting clubs across the county, the LSRA launched a project to introduce school, college and university pupils to target shooting and encourage them to set up school or community shooting clubs. It also works to increase participation in shooting and runs experience days for both able-bodied and disabled participants. To support the project, Edgar Brothers has donated Hatsan air rifles and air pistols plus six

Chiappa CO2 air pistols. It has also donated nine OPTI-10 3.9x40mm riflescopes, a footpump for the pre-charged rifles and more than 10,000 airgun pellets – around £3,750 at retail value. Lisa Riley, director of Edgar Brothers’ shooting sports and outdoor divisions, said: “We are delighted to be able support its work in this area by donating a range of high-quality airguns and equipment to ensure both the ablebodied and the disabled can participate fully in this great initiative.” LSRA development officer Dave Carter added: “We have had a tremendous reaction to the new project but until now it has been

hampered by lack of equipment. Thanks to the generosity of Edgar Brothers, we can now press ahead with our plans and work to increase awareness of and participation in the fantastic, social and rewarding sport of target shooting.”

Every Lincoln shotgun boughtt into stock by the dealer during the promotion will entitle them to one entry in the Las Vegas draw: the more guns they take, the greater the chance of winning the prize – either for themselves or to offer a member of staff or even a customer. We’re also offering a special additional margin during the promotion to ensure that we make the best contribution we can to the dealer’s till. The dealer’s sales assistants will be rewarded, too. We’ve teamed up with Red Letter Days, which organises experiences like hot-air balloon trips, driving a Ferrari or jumping out of an aeroplane, if that’s your kind of thing – basically, a whole host of different experiences to appeal to everyone. For every Lincoln sold we will allocate points. These can be accumulated towards an experience or simply spent on the High Street, at hundreds of retail outlets, just like a gift voucher. This is all administered through a dedicated website so it’s easy for sales assistants to track their progress, view their points and see what they can redeem them against.

Why are you doing this?

IK

We’re fully committed to providing dealers with the best ways to make a decent margin on a quality product. We’re also fully committed to Lincoln shotguns and are demonstrating this with a huge investment into this promotion, which we hope will benefit everyone in the retail chain. Most people say that Lincoln shotguns are fine, good value and reliable; we don’t need to change the gun, just increase the demand from consumer through to dealer. We also want to recognise the hard work that retailers put into helping us get Lincoln shotguns into the hands of shooters. How will this be communicated to

campaign through the specialist press and online. There’ll be a new Lincoln website where consumers can read gun reviews, view videos and gain the confidence needed to make the right purchasing decision. But we need the sales staff on board, too.The retail incentive scheme will encourage sales assistants to take a Lincoln off the shelf and talk to customers about the quality of the product and the great value for money it offers. Trade coverage will help us to get the dealers involved and we’ll be providing posters for display instore. We’re dipping our toe into social media and this should be a good way to keep people in touch with how things are progressing. We’d love it if dealers sent us pictures of their customers being handed their prizes – then we can get them up online to keep people excited and interested in the progress of the promotion. This also gives the retailer some press coverage off the back of our own extensive media promotion.

What made Rothery choose Lincoln shotguns in the first place?

IK

IK

The promotion starts with the consumer. There’s little point in selling guns into dealers and them sticking on the shelf. To help build demand we’re running a huge advertising and promotional

We’re committed to bringing the UK gun trade quality products that are reliable and offer great value. Speak to any gunsmith about Lincoln shotguns and they all tell you the same thing – you

simply don’t see many problems with them. These are quality Italian shotguns, built to last and at very reasonable prices. We have a large range available in stock – including the smaller calibres – all available for next-day delivery. Dealers don’t risk losing a sale through long lead times and can achieve far better margins than many of the other brands of shotgun. Another thing dealers really like is the Lincoln’s scaled-down action – if you want a smaller-gauge gun you also get a smaller action, so the overall balance and feel of the gun is far better. It’s a great help with smaller shooters, ladies and the youth market, too, and makes the gun very popular in this space. How long have you been offering Lincolns and what has been the general reaction of dealers over the years?

IK

The Lincoln shotgun brand was owned by David Nickerson and, back in 2008 when we were first aware that this business was likely to be sold, we were concerned that Lincoln shotguns might disappear. Buying David Nickerson’s business enabled us to make an investment in the Lincoln brand and guarantee to the trade access to quality Italian shotguns from an English-owned business.

FLYING THE FLAG

Flying The Flag A day in the field often ends with boots clad in thick mud and the dogs matted and wet with coats full of thorns. If you have to put everything in your 'immaculate' car, it’s time to contact Rhino UK! Keep your boot clean and tidy with Rhino liners.

There are options to protect the back of your seats.

Carp anglers will love these seat protectors.

R

h UK is the hino h result l off a collaboration between Richard Johnson and Gary Shields, who started out selling industrial sewing machines to the textile trade. After three years, following a decline in a once burgeoning industry, they decided to change direction and began to manufacture removable seat covers for tractors and cars. A positive response at shows and exhibitions saw demand for generic protection systems that were designed to fit most popular makes of vehicle rise, and a decision was made to branch out and offer a bespoke service for individually manufactured covers and boot liners. From small beginnings, Rhino UK evolved and now has a packed order book and increasing turnover, with demand for the huge range of products growing rapidly!

Perfect f fi fit

Made to last

Each bespoke order is put together by hand; time-served staff work to exacting patterns to produce a protective system that can be used in any vehicle. Patterns are cut using the vehicle manufacturer’s own designs, so each is guaranteed to be a perfect fit for your car, whatever it may be. All liners and covers are attached to the vehicle using strong, elasticated loops and self-adhesive Velcro strips, which combine to anchor each item in place and ensure it cannot be moved by restless pets or heavy, muddy clothing. Each boot liner also includes a bumper protector to guard your paintwork from scrabbling claws and this can be aligned to any paintwork or upholstery to provide a perfect match.

Rhino UK uses heavy-duty bonded polyester to make the covers, with Velcro seams and heavy-gauge stitching to construct a barrier system impervious to muck and water. Products are guaranteed for a year and each is easily removable and can be washed in a domestic washing machine at 40 degrees to remove any stains or bacteria. The boot liners are available in 12 standard colours, or can be colour matched to the vehicle as stated. They can be machined so that the bumper protector matches the door opening of any dog cage, a bib can be added to protect the front face of the rear seat, individual headrest covers can also be utilised and even a padded base can be inserted into the cover to provide comfort for weary dogs.

Gary explained: “The business has changed over the years as we’ve increased our range but we remain a small company with customer service as our first priority. We manufacture each order individually so, while we’re unable to supply immediately, you’re guaranteed a personal service and we take great pride in our products. We want our customers to be completely happy with any bespoke Rhino UK purchase!” So if you need to protect your vehicle, seats, boot space, pets and belongings, check out Rhino UK for the ultimate solution in barrier protection!

Onthemarket…

ON THE MARKET

Metallic ammunition

There has been much going on with the global ammunition industry of late, but concerns over shortages look like easing now, with some great choice.

I

n its March 2015 newsletter, the National Shooting Sports Federation, the trade association for America’s firearms industry, credits President Obama for being the best salesman for firearms and ammunition since Samuel Colt, and responsible for some $10 billion worth of sales. Much of that came in late 2012 and early 2013 when gun advocates were worried about potential gun control measures and rumours abounded that the government was stockpiling ammo, causing a run in the private sector. What was good news for American sales not surprisingly had a knock-on effect on the availability of American

28

ammunition brands in the UK, with many wholesalers struggling to meet retailer demand and customers left in short supply.

Good news for buyers That situation is now changing as Derek Edgar, managing director of Edgar Brothers, which distributes US-made Hornady ammunition, as well as Fiocchi ammunition from Italy, explains. “Obama hasn’t legislated against firearms as people had feared so we are now seeing the previous supply issue easing and the gaps we had in our range filling up again. People aren’t stockpiling ammo as much as they were, which is great news

for supply from the US to the UK.” Steve Way, associate director at GMK, which distributes the Federal, CCI, Speer and Sako ammunition brands, agrees: “The situation is definitely easing and at a meeting with Federal at IWA we were told that ‘Obamaitis’ is decreasing. The reason for the situation is twofold; Obama hasn’t implemented any bans and American shooters have filled up their home storage areas so demand there is slowing. So the situation here has improved considerably, especially for centrefire ammunition.”

Rimfire on the rise? Rimfire ammunition from the US is still in short supply

as Jeremy Rich, who runs commercial sales at Viking Arms, points out: “Obama’s antigun rhetoric resulted in the sale of more than 250,000 .22 pistols being bought, along with the associated ammunition, so that really does explain the shortage of rimfire ammunition we have seen, but yes, things are resolving and supply to the UK is now picking up.”

European success This is great news for Birmingham manufacturer ELEY, which has a reputation for top .22LR rimfire ammunition. Alongside its competition rounds, it has just launched two more ranges – Force and Contact.

www.tandgmagazine.com

p028-029_T&G_05_OTM ammo.indd 1

ON THE MARKET

ELEY Force is a high velocity semi-auto .22LR round designed for power, featuring a new propellant utilising a distributed pressure curve that accelerates the bullet to a high velocity for greater knock-down force. Meanwhile, its Contact ammo is a subsonic semi-auto .22LR round designed with a softer sound and minimal recoil. The reduced recoil is said to deliver quicker sight picture recovery – important for the competitive semi-auto shooter. Not surprisingly, distributors with European ammunition on their books have seen an increase in take-up of these brands. Edgar Brothers, which was appointed exclusive UK distributor for the Fiocchi range of rifle ammunition in 2013, has seen sales of the brand rise. “UK rifle shooters have a choice of calibres, with Fiocchi manufacturing a range of competitively priced .22 LR cartridges for target shooting through to high-quality match ammunition for the competition shooter,” says Derek Edgar. “Sporting .22 LR cartridges are also available in subsonic and high-velocity rounds. This is high-quality ammunition at a competitive price and the fact that Fiocchi uses premium components such as Hornady and Sierra bullets is a great advantage.” Steve Way at GMK has seen an increase in sales of Sako ammunition from Finland: “It’s difficult to say how much demand has been created by retailers and how much by the end users but there has been an increase as people have switched to European brands. “However, now supply from the US is increasing I think the majority of shooters that use American brands will go back to them. Once a shooter has zeroed a rifle for a particular type of ammunition they are reluctant to change – they want hassle-free shooting and zeroing is timeconsuming and expensive.” The current big word for both shotgun and rifle ammunition manufacturers is lead. The shenanigans surrounding leaked e-mails said to come from Lead Ammunition Group chairman John Swift, combined with Norway’s repeal of a lead-shot ban outside of wetlands areas

ELEY has unveiled two more ranges, including Contact.

Derek Edgar distributes a number of ammunition brands, including Fiocchi.

has put the lead versus non-lead agenda firmly on the map. As a result, many rifle ammo producers are now producing lead-free rounds, catching up with their colleagues in the shotgun ammunition world. RWS, for example, which is distributed in the UK by RUAG, offers the Evolution Green bullet, with two bullet cores made of tin, and has recently introduced the RWS HIT (high-impact technology) round as a lead-free alternative for hunters who prefer to use nonfragmenting rounds. Lapua, of Finland, distributed by Viking Arms, offers the

Naturalis copper range in a variety of hunting calibres such as .308, 30.06 and 6.5x55. Sako’s Powerhead lead-free range has now been joined by the Sako Copperhead, both of which feature 100 per cent lead-free copper bullets, suitable for all hunting scenarios, while Federal offers the Vital Shok Trophy Copper round. In addition, .22 rimfire lead-free ammunition is slowly becoming available: Winchester produces the tin Varmint LF round while CCI offers a copper particle polymer mix nonlead .22 LR round suitable for plinking.

Ahead of demands Currently the lead-free market is being driven by demands from organisations such as the Forestry Commission, NGOs and the like, which perceive there may well be a lead ban on the properties and land they own or use – if not an outright ban. “It remains to be seen how the lead issue will play out,” says Steve Way. “However, if lead is banned that would certainly cause a huge amount of hardship in both the centrefire and rimfire markets.” As to future trends in ammunition? More non-toxic rounds definitely, and an increase in manufacture of faster, flatter flying rounds such as Hornady’s Superformance range that give increased muzzle velocities and great impact energy. However, the big future trend could be more to do with global markets rather than manufacturing techniques. Fluctuations in exchange rates between the US and Europe may well mean ammunition prices rise from 2016 onwards while an expected increase in the price of the raw materials used to make ammunition will almost certainly be passed on to end users. Whether that means shooters will once again start stockpiling ammunition remains to be seen. www.tandgmagazine.com

For years regular Snowbee retailers have enjoyed consistent success and demand, regardless of market fluctuations. This has been largely due to the company’s desire for sustained quality and value to the consumer. With new rods, reels and fly lines for 2015, Snowbee continues to push the popular performance merit of a ‘perfectly

balanced’ outfit for best results on all three, with the added benefit of an extra 20 per cent discount on all these when purchased together as the ‘balanced outfit’. All too frequently the consumer is faced with the dilemma of choosing the perfect outfit from all the options available, and, although they can appear correct in title across different brands, they don’t always work ideally together. So Snowbee continues to encourage the consumer to make one choice and know that they’re receiving exceptional value and quality that really does work perfectly together… why make it difficult?

Viper’s tactical approach to sales Thatchreed has a reputation for developing its own strong brands. Jack Pyke has been a revelation and now Viper Tactical is receiving the same treatment.

W

hen Bedfordbased shooting and accessory supplier Thatchreed unveils an extensive range of additional products to a brand, it’s a sure sign that it plans to develop that name widely. In the last few years its Jack Pyke brand has performed spectacularly, introducing innovative products, offering great value, delivering fast and efficient service and even unveiling its own camouflage patterns. Now the Thachreed team has turned its attention to its Viper Tactical collection, giving the brand a slight makeover, revealing a new logo and unleashing hundreds of new or updated items. Indeed, it has spent more than two years working on the concept and developing an entirely new collection of items, numbering more than 450 in total. Along with the new-look logo and a dedicated free retail catalogue for the brand (there’s also one for Jack Pyke), it all adds up to some compelling reasons to talk to Thatchreed. Thatchreed’s Glenn Lewis revealed: “The 2015 catalogue

32

features a large influx of new products, especially in the Viper Tactical section. “This now comprehensive range represents a huge amount of research, development and investment from us here, which we’re all very excited about. “Naturally, to run alongside the new Viper Tactical collection we have in place a very large marketing schedule that should push the brand forward and drive more sales to your retail outlet.”

Making a difference One of the things that Thatchreed is renowned for is its development of concepts associated with its

brands, and, once again, it doesn’t disappoint. For a start, the Viper Tactical brand is showcasing its V-CAM camouflage pattern, which has taken 18 months to develop. Indeed, the team was so keen to get it right that it actually delayed the pattern’s launch until it was 100 per cent correct, rather than making do with something that was close. Then there’s the brand-new, ‘registered’ Lazer Cut System, which is an innovative design and totally compatible with original ‘molle’ (modular lightweight loadcarrying equipment). The Viper Lazer Cut Molle System is a lightweight and innovative platform that allows the user to customise and alter items to their operational needs. Using the most advanced manufacturing techniques, the

Lazer Cut System is based on the firm’s strongest 600D Cordura, which is cut out on the most up-todate laser flatbed machines. It’s then reinforced with tough yet lightweight webbing sewn onto the reverse side, adding strength and durability, making for a compact, lightweight and hardwearing platform. Taking any Lazer Cut System product as a platform, a totally unique operational tailored setup can easily be achieved by simply adding or reducing compatible pouches and equipment. Combined with an extremely heavy marketing campaign taking place over the coming year, Thatchreed is certain that this will be a winner. This is especially so when you know that, as always, its products are fully stocked and ready to supply with its usual next-day service.

Onthemarket…

ON THE MARKET

Specimen fishing tackle Very much the Cinderella to carp fishing over the last two decades, specimen angling appears to be on the rise among the nation’s anglers, so be prepared.

I

n certain areas of the country, particularly those with a vibrant barbel river close at hand, sales of specimen tackle are said to be – in some instances at least – rivalling that of carp gear. With recent years seeing an explosion in barbel fishing, now quickly followed by the massive interest in all forms of perch fishing, it is obvious that more

34

anglers are becoming interested in specifically targeting different species – and often the larger specimens. Where once anglers would have had to make do with the best tackle that they could find, now many companies have recognised the growth potential here and have significantly ramped up their product offering.

Reel appeal While undeniably not as popular as their larger carp fishing cousins, smaller versions of free-spool reels have made something of a resurgence over the last few months, with several manufacturers launching innovative models ideally sized for the specialist angler. Shimano’s recent additions to the legendary Baitrunner stable

are sure to prove a big hit with specialist anglers. For launching big feeders to the horizon on large gravel pits, or for using higherdiameter lines when targeting big-river barbel, the Baitrunner X-Aero RA6000 is sure to work. Using the company’s Aero concept, which sees a noticeably larger spool mated to a standardsized body, this technology is said to significantly improve

casting performance and line management. Also utilising the same spool technology, alongside a host of other Shimano design features, are the Baitrunner X-Aero FA2500 and FA4000 models. These front-drag reels are the ideal size for smaller venues and species, from specimen stillwater roach right up to small-river barbel and chub. For the more price-conscious angler, the equivalent-sized Shimano ST level reels make a great starting point. Gaining a strong following among barbel anglers, thanks to its excellent build quality and great value for money, is Daiwa’s Emcast BR range of reels. Supplied with two aluminium spools and a choice of both single and double handles, this offering has rugged good looks and offers everything that the modern barbel angler could wish for in a baitfeeder reel. Owing to its oversized spool, the smaller 3500 model is ideal for chub and barbel fishing, handling the heavier lines often associated with modern barbel fishing with ease. Reels are a big part of many companies’ line-ups for 2015, with

With three new dedicated single-tip barbel rods, ranging from a 12ft 1.75lb test model, up to a 13ft 180g rod aimed at the biggest rivers, Korum is appealing to its strong barbel fishing fan base. There’s also a 12ft All-rounder, designed with a versatile Avon action for lines from 4lb to 12lb. Designed to complement its specimen rods are its Free Spools, understated matt-black reels in 6000 and 8000 sizes, with a quickdrag front clutch and fast-reaction free-spool system. The Korum brand is synonymous with innovative terminal tackle and this year sees several additions to the Xpert Rig range, including the Dura-Beads, which provide a strong all-metal connection between the main line and hooklength. Ideal for larger species where stronger lines are required, these connectors are sure to prove to be a big hit among barbel anglers.

Sitting pretty Following on from the huge success of its feature-packed Robo chairs, Middy has launched a collection of furniture eminently suitable for the specialist angler. The aptly named Eazi-Carry

Fox has a long tradition of supplying products specifically aimed at the specialist. Alnwick’s Greys also launching its popular GFR free-run reels in a specialist angler-friendly 40 size to complement the existing 50 and 60 sizes. Supplied with two aluminium spools and a strong graphite body, this is a strong contender at a great price point. Greys has also taken a large step into landing nets and handles for 2015. Available in both rubberised and free-flow meshes, these are ideal for specimens of all sizes and are perfectly complemented by the brand’s one and two-piece handles.

Xpert choice Korum is one brand that quickly comes to mind when thinking about specimen fishing and again it doesn’t disappoint for 2015. Following on from its Xpert rods some time ago it has launched several rods, filling a gap for the more budget-conscious angler.

chair is said to be lighter and more compact than the original Robo, ideal for the roving angler. To make transportation even simpler, Middy has developed the Eazi-Carry strap, which enables the system to be carried on the angler’s back. The strap system can even be combined with the Kodex Long Session Bag to create a complete hands-free carry system. With overnight sessions in search of specimen fish becoming increasingly popular, even on river fisheries, it is no surprise that many specialist anglers are adopting long-stay equipment initially developed with the carp angler in mind. This fact has obviously been recognised by many companies, who now see a part of their sales going to these markets. Nash Tackle is a case in point, having recently added lighter-testcurve versions of its innovative

Scope and Dwarf rods to cater for lighter carp fishing, as well as specimens. In lengths between 9ft and 10ft and offered in test curves of 1.75lb and 2.25lb, these are ideal for both the stillwater and river angler looking for the ultimate in mobility. With both the Scope and Dwarf concepts now rolled out to encompass shelters and luggage, sales of these products to specimen anglers are proving extremely buoyant.

Royale heritage Fox International has a long tradition of supplying products specifically aimed at the specialist. Its Royale Barbel Specialist rod range offers something for just about every situation the modern angler is likely to face, from a lightweight 1.5lb model, right up to a powerful ‘big-river’ 2.25lb rod. Its Duolite rods are likely to prove popular with stillwater anglers as well as barbel specialists and come in several permutations, including a 2.25lb model with both a solid tip and push-in quivertip, and 11ft and 12ft 1.75lb and 2.25lb twin-tip versions. Fox Supa Brollies are a common sight on specimen venues up and down the country and the latest FX Brolly Carryall is ideal for the angler who wants to travel light but keep their brolly with them at all times.

Boldly going… There are probably few specialist anglers who do not have a few packets of plastic baits from Enterprise Tackle in their boxes, and for 2015 the company has several new ideas that are sure to prove equally popular. Artificial corn has been a massive edge, catching vast numbers of specimen fish, including several record breakers. A collaboration between Enterprise and CC Moore has seen the classic corn now available ready flavoured with several equally famous liquid attractors. Slightly larger than corn, making them ideal for bream, tench and barbel, are the Imitation Lupin Beans from Enterprise – these cream-coloured baits will resist the attentions of even the most persistent ‘nuisance’ fish. Artificial worms have been popular and are now available in a novel Nite-Glo version that can be charged either in daylight or with the company’s UV torch. A bait that will certainly stand out as the light begins to fade. Meanwhile, Drennan International has unleashed its Supplex Fluoro, a 100 per cent fluorocarbon line available in 10 breaking strains, from 0.9lb right up to 10lb. With the original Supplex line now a permanent feature on many reels, this fluoro hooklength material is sure to find a receptive market. www.tandgmagazine.com

Sportex more than a match for rod makers After spending many years out of the UK, European rod giant Sportex has finally returned with a little help from fast-growing specialist brand Taska.

espite disappearing from the UK rod scene for a number of years, German rod manufacturer Sportex has been steadily acquiring a highly impressive reputation for itself across Europe. Now, though, it’s making a welcome return to these shores, aided by another name with a strong reputation – Taska – which will be looking to place a range of rods in key dealers across the UK, covering carp and lure fishing plus blanks to allow custom rod builders to design their own gear.

German engineering What makes Sportex’s rods so highly thought of is that every single one is an individual creation, rather than them being uniform rods ‘off the peg’. Each one is adjusted in length, action and component composition to suit a particular casting weight, distance and anticipated twist. All the rods are made with the best components in their class, such as original Fuji guides and the latest generation of Fuji reel holders, natural premium-class AAA cork, top-grade Duplon and a special lacquer paint that’s said to be both elastic and impact resistant for long-lasting protection and striking good looks. Thanks to its quality-control procedures – whether on materials or components, manufacturing checks or ongoing inspections at every stage – Sportex confidently offers a 10-year guarantee on all of its blanks. Christian Rademann, Sportex’s international sales manager, explained: “At the heart of every rod are the right fibres and the innovative processes that they undergo. We use only the latest and highest-quality carbon fibres for our rods, sourced from the

leading manufacturers. “What makes our knowledge and skills so special is how we achieve the specific mixture of the most varied materials, such as highly modulated carbon fibres, Kevlar, boron or Zylon and merge them into a frictional force-closed combination. “This enables us to exploit the advantages of the individual fibre materials, such as flex and tensile strength, lightness, impact resistance, speed and resistance to breakage in optimum combinations. “And the result? Rods tailored individually to specific types of fishing and angling techniques,

when required – these are rods developed for anglers looking for something special.

Top technology Over the years Sportex’s technical knowledge has continued to grow – the firm never rests on its laurels. In the 1950s it was renowned for its honey-coloured fibreglass blanks, which set countless records in casting distances and precision. Then, when innovative carbonfibre materials arrived, the brand was among the first to recognise its enormous potential for making rods and how to best put it to good use. Now, thanks to Sportex’s HT-

Very soon you can expect to see a complete range of fully developed, top-end carp rods. with the fast action typical of Sportex – qualities that inspire champion anglers all over the world.” For the UK market, offered via Taska, the rods available will include the latest lure fishing rods, giving the angler a real connection between themselves and the lure on the end of the line, and, when the fish strikes, the rods’ actions ensure that the user is always in control. Its carp rods are built not only with distance in mind but also with the desire for eye-catching products that perform well under pressure. Whether you’re targeting a tricky character at distance, a tough-fighting one in the margins or stalking either, the range covers all requirements. The semi-parabolic action of the blanks, built from the best materials, ensure plenty of power

Cross Winding blank technology, its rods are said to be unique in their combination of strength, lightness and speed. It has also moved the benchmark of rod building even further forward, with its Helicore blank technology. Designed to unify the best possible features in all disciplines, it’s a further development of the HT-Cross Winding process, utilising the latest in material science and manufacturing knowhow. The result is a series of incredibly light and fast blanks that are more sensitive but still as robust, strong and long lasting as anything else that Sportex offers.

features and benefits. Steve explained: “The quality of these German-built rods speaks for itself. Sportex takes great pride and strives to provide a range of rods that all perform to the highest standards, using unique carbon compounds to manufacture blanks that have been purpose built with specific uses in mind – it has certainly managed to design a range to suit all types of anglers at various price ranges too. “In fact, 90 per cent of Sportex’s intense research-and-development process is spent on creating the blank alone, including sourcing the finest materials to ensure the highest performance possible from the rods themselves. “These awesome blanks are completed with Fuji reel seats and SiC guides, including the new Fuji Torzite guides, to provide comfort while playing fish and casting, and to create free-flowing line, aiding the user when fishing at range.” Taska will be distributing Sportex across the UK and expects to supply between 25 and 30 dealers with the current range of carp and lure rods. In addition, blanks will also be available for custom-built rods for anglers who wish to spec their own design to suit their own angling styles. Steve also revealed: “In the very near future you can expect to see a complete range of fully developed, top-end carp rods; these will have been stripped back and styled specifically for the UK market, but will be boasting the Taska logo on these proven blanks, which have already stood the test of time.”

Given the task Taska boss Steve Tasker unveiled the rods at The Big One show in Farnborough and was joined by Christian to explain all of the rods’

FLYING THE FLAG

Flying The Flag SAE Bait Developments is at the forefront of bait companies doing very well without making a song and dance about it, after starting out as a dream for one particular angler....

S

ocial media has helped fuel an explosion of ‘the next big thing’bait companies, which have proliferated in sheds and man caves as anglers seek to make a fast buck selling bait. Many of these rapidly disappear when it becomes apparent that the expectation of both manufacturer and client are not met, and that, actually, the bait game is much harder than it looks! Only a few really kick on and become a viable business. Scott Eyre eventually put SAE Bait Developments on a professional level in 1998, after realising that demand for his baits required a business plan and investment. Scott had been making his own baits since 1985 and his success, and that of his friends and associates who also used his products, was quickly recognised, with demand growing steadily until premises were acquired and full-scale production began. Since then, SAE Baits has moved to larger premises several times to keep up with increasing sales, and the present unit is a modern facility in the Staffordshire Moorlands, where Scott can turn

out hundreds of kilos per week to consistent and exacting standards..

Knife supplier finally ‘cuts it’ overseas

Specialist UK knife distributor BA Blades returned home from a successful IWA Outdoor Classics show in March with a bright outlook for the next 12 months.

O

ne of the bestknown names in knives in the UK is fast becoming a popular name across the rest of Europe, too, following a successful first foray into the export market through trade shows. IWA 2015 in Nuremberg was the company’s first-ever experience exhibiting overseas and marks another milestone as BA Blades continues its growth within the industry. Since being relaunched by Acme United Corporation in 2009, Camillus has re-released many traditional designs, updated with modern steel technologies and durable G10 handles. Acme United is a pioneer of titanium carbonitride bonding, a process that works on a molecular level to provide a steel three times harder than untreated stainless steel for unmatched edge retention. Perhaps most exciting for Camillus is the brand’s partnership with Les Stroud, star of the Discovery Channel’s Survivor Man programme, to produce a range of survival knives and tools. Among these is the SK Mountain fixed blade, which comes complete with a multifunction sheath, including a sharpener, flashlight, whistle, paracord, firesteel and storage compartment for kindling or tinder.

The ‘Holy Trinity’ of lure fishing – and more! When specialist retailer Lure Lounge had the chance to distribute some key brands to the UK market, owner Martin Ferrett set about securing the rights to products that are really ‘doing the business’.

T

hings have changed noticeably for Lure Lounge’s Martin Ferrett over the last 12 months. This time last year he had just left his job as a commercial bank manager for Lloyds after 28 years and set up an e-commerce site specialising in quality, not-readily-available lure fishing gear at the right price. With a background in fly and lure fishing across Europe, it took no time at all to generate significant interest, and then a twist of fate brought a distribution deal for Duel and Z-Man in the UK and Ireland to his door. With these two brands on board and a growing list of retailers, Lure Lounge took the plunge into the wholesale market, adding Live Target, Pro-Cure Bait Scent and TT Lures to the portfolio. Most recently it secured the rights to CWC of Sweden products, meaning that trade customers now have access to Big Fish Tackle, Strike Pro Lures and Strike Wire.

46

Holy Trinity Martin explained: “We made a conscious effort to bring in what we call ‘the Holy Trinity of lure fishing’ – Z-Man lures,TT HeadlockZ jigheads and Pro-Cure Super Gel.” Z-Man is made of ElaZtech, which is said to be 10 times tougher than any other soft-lure material and already has a cult following among wrasse anglers with the Punch CrawZ and Scented CrabZ. But it’s not just for saltwater – Z-Man has more than 40 different lures in a multitude of colours, with many perfect for freshwater predators, having already accounted for pike up to 26lb and perch to more than 4lb. Martin added: “Being made of ElaZtech they don’t get shredded like other soft-plastic lures do – recently one lure caught more than 25 jack pike in an hour-and-a-half and still looks as good as new.” Each TT HeadlockZ jighead is built on a brutally strong, chemically sharpened Mustad

black-nickel hook with a unique ‘head lock’ grub keeper designed to work with Z-Man lures. They’re available in a multitude of sizes and weights, including a finesse range to match the smallest Z-Man lures (and can be used with any soft-plastic bait). Pro-Cure Super Gel – the same gel already used by Z-Man to scent its lures – can be used to top up the scent or added to any other bait to provide it with that extra fish appeal. Martin revealed: “These three are fantastic products in their own right but together they’re just amazing and suitable for both saltwater and freshwater situations. You need look no further than to see how these products dominate lure fishing in Australia.”

CWC, meanwhile, gives dealers and anglers alike access to a fantastic range of products. Big Fish Tackle will mean that the Roots jerkbait rods will hit the UK for the first time, along with BFT nets and terminal gear, while Strike Pro lures include the iconic Buster Jerk – the most successful lure for predator fish in Scandinavia. In Sweden alone it has accounted for many pike between 10kg and 15kg. Martin said: “In a short time we have put together a quality line-up of lure-related products for both saltwater and freshwater angler.”

Sonik goes from strength to strength Sonik Sports has been winning over anglers for more than a few years now with its comprehensive range of rods, reels and tackle. That reputation will only be enhanced by what’s to come…

F

ollowing the resounding success of its groundbreaking Gravity X carp rods, which have been turning heads within the trade since their launch at the Tackle & Guns Trade Show last October, Sonik Sports is set to make further waves in the carp market with the arrival of its impressive new range of SKS shelters, bedchairs, chairs and luggage. This smart new range of soft goods has really hit the ground

48

running, with impressive early sellthrough already reported from the trade – a fact that’s not surprising when you look at the quality versus price across the entire range. The continued popularity of the SKS and SKS Black carp rods, which now account for a large proportion of carp-rod sales in the £50 to £70 price bracket, means that the addition of the SKS softgoods range makes perfect sense and should ensure continued rapid growth for the brand. Sonik’s commercial director,

Ian McCormack, explained: “The strength of competition in this category means that we’ve been very careful to ensure that each item stands up to scrutiny and delivers great looks, performance and durability for the price. “We’re confident that this new range will prove to be a winning proposition for our dealers and have plans to extend the range in the near future to provide a complete solution for the keen carper looking for smart kit at a reasonable price. As usual, we’re

backing this all up with a strong marketing campaign to run across traditional, digital and socialmedia platforms.”

Reel appeal Carp reels are also now a strong part of the Sonik brand, with the Tournos 8000 and 10000 plus the 6000 FS Black models continuing to grow in popularity. The understated sleek black looks, smooth performance and rugged reliability have proven to be real winners with customers all

over the UK and Europe. “Reels have rapidly developed into an important part of our business,” Ian continued. “The volumes on the Tournos reels are still very much on an upward trajectory 18 months following launch, which reflects not only the fact that they’re great products, on all levels, but also demonstrates the groundswell that is building behind the brand at home and abroad. “Reels will play an important part of the ongoing brand development in carp and the broader coarse categories over the coming years and we have several exciting developments in the pipeline.”

The lure of the brand Reels are, of course, only one category. Added to this, Sonik has an extensive range of exciting new products being developed in other areas. These will include products to strengthen traditional markets, where it will continue to test the boundaries but will also see Sonik expand into new categories. All the products are being painstakingly thought through and designed to ensure Sonik continues to represent top product for the consumer and a solid business proposition for its trade partners. An indication of the continued broadening of the Sonik offering across angling disciplines outside of carp is the addition of the AVX lure rods and reels, to complement its lure proposition. While the rods and reels are

matched beautifully to represent a stunning combo when put together, this kit packs real performance. The AVX rods are built from super-responsive, 40-ton highmodulus carbon-fibre blanks to deliver strength and ultra-fast actions, ideal for casting lures and plugs while also absorbing the lunges of a fish. Matched to the superb new AVX fixed-spool reels you have an outfit that every lure angler will desire. Priced from only £49.99, these eye-catching new reels are ultrasmooth, super-reliable and come with two spools – one for mono, the other braid. Available in four sizes, the range covers all types of lure fishing, from dropshotting to long-range casting of heavier plugs and lures. The infinite anti-reverse and sensitive front drag also means that they’re ideal for match or feeder The SKS range of products continues to grow for carp anglers.

fishing and are sure to be a hit with anglers from all disciplines.

Coast to coast Sea fishing has always been a strong category for Sonik and 2015 sees two exciting shore-rod ranges released, each of which is already selling well and receiving rave reviews. The Gravity Surf rods widen the boundaries of modern shore-rod design and allow anglers of all abilities to compete by allowing them to cast good distances without needing any advanced techniques. A simple off-the-ground or overhead thump using a big fixedspool reel and braid will propel the lead to the horizon and place the bait where needed when fish are at long range. These incredible three-piece rods are available in 14ft 4in and 15ft 4in sizes, both of which are

rated to cast 3oz to 8oz and priced at £299 and £329 respectively. The added feature of a spliced white glass tip provides unparalleled bite detection, even from a small whiting or dab at range. Each rod comes supplied in a smart and durable Cordura case with padded partitions for safe transport. At the other end of the price spectrum, the SKS Black shore rods are already selling fast, and it’s not hard to see why. Priced from only £69.99 for the 12ft 4oz-6oz to £89.99 for the 14ft 5oz-7oz version, there’s nothing on the market to compete with the looks, performance and action at these price points. With a powerful casting action, each rod features a Japanese shrink-wrap handle, a custom Sonik slide-lock reel seat, durable Hardloy rings suitable for a multiplier or fixed-spool reel and a smart red and matt-black livery. They look set to be the best-selling shore rods in the UK for 2015. All in all 2015 looks set to mark another impressive year for Sonik. Its appearance at the T&G Trade Show in 2015 is certainly an eagerly anticipated event to see what other quality developments it can pull out of the locker.

Remington has the competition licked Top shooting supplier and distributor Sportsmarketing has unveiled the Remington Model 1100 Competition Synthetic, a gun super-tuned for the competitive scene.

I

f you’re out on the competition circuit, there’s no doubt that you need a gun that’s designed to perform. It needs to be reliable, durable, offer consistent patterning, able to handle the right loads and be versatile, so that the shooter can be ready for any situation. Remington’s new 1100 Competition Synthetic has been super-tuned to make it a real player on the competitive scene. By over-boring the 30in barrel and lengthening the forcing cones, Remington says it has improved shot-to-shot pattern consistency and made what was one of the softest-recoiling

actions in the world even easier on your shoulder. The receiver and all internal parts feature a nickel-Teflon finish for what it claims is the smoothest, most reliable cycling ever. As if that wasn’t enough, the Model 1100 has also been optimised for 2¾in target loads and light field loads, while the synthetic adjustable comb can be fine-tuned to your shooting preference and the barrel boasts a 10mm target-style rib. Offered in 12 gauge, the gun has a synthetic polymer fully adjustable stock and synthetic forend, all finished with a carbon graphite look.

With dual bead sights, the gun weighs in at 8¼lb and has a 14.5in length of pull. The Model 1100 also comes with a full set of five extended Briley (target) choke tubes as

Sensas shows off its winning formula Since Sensas elected to go direct to the retailer last October, its sales have grown significantly, thanks to its comprehensive portfolio and, now, its new showroom. The Sensas showroom has all of the firm‘s brands on display.

I

n just a few short months since supplying dealers direct with product, Sensas has enjoyed strong success. Much of this can be attributed to the full range of Sensas, Starbaits and Gunki product now being made available to all shops, with many retailers truly amazed at the huge range of items on offer. Now, though, dealers can even see the whole lot for themselves, thanks to the firm’s newly opened Redditch-based showroom, which is already receiving huge acclaim from retailers who have visited. Mark Downes, Sensas’ UK sales manager, explained: “The showroom has been a real bonus for us. Now we can show all of our customers the full range of products we have to offer; all this, plus a great delivery service, good after-sales and an easy ‘order direct’

52

system that has already caught on with some of the big boys!” The showroom has great motorway access as it’s just three miles off the M42, with easy links to the M5, M6, M40 and M1.

Big brands Sensas has long been one of the country’s premier brands, often leading the way with bait development and innovation. Serving the whole of Europe is no easy task and its ability to provide baits and tackle for many diverse markets has helped it become one of the continent’s leading brands. From its humble bait beginnings, the tackle side of the business now includes poles, rods, reels, luggage and seatboxes, plus all of the accessories you’ll need. Then there’s the latest ‘subbrand’: Feeder-Tech, the brainchild

of Mark Downes, which now incorporates everything from feeder rods to feeders themselves, and even a dedicated mono. Starbaits, the firm’s carp brand, is widely acclaimed for its bait, and in recent seasons has made huge leaps in tackle development, especially for the UK market, mainly led by manager Mitch Smith. Its baits are always made from the finest of ingredients and are always at the cutting edge of recent trends, coupled with innovation. The big mover for Sensas, though, must be its predator brand, Gunki. Already huge across Europe, the word has now spread to the UK and it’s here where the market is really growing. All of these products can be seen at the showroom. To book an appointment, contact your local rep.

The season of opportunity With spring in the air and an improved economy on the horizon, now’s the time for smart retailers to take advantage, says Omni Capital Retail Finance’s sales director, George Miller. army of small-and-medium sized enterprises (SMEs) will get on with doing what it does best – creating jobs, opportunities and wealth, in spite of what the politicians throw at it.

Flexible finance

Omni Capital Retail Finance’s sales director, George Miller.

S

pring, as the saying goes, is the season of renewal. I can imagine that many of our politicians will be hoping so as they nervously eye their employment prospects following the coming contest with an electorate never less inclined to swallow the usual pledges and promises. Whichever party – or parties – prevail after May 7th, we can be certain of one thing: Britain’s

With inflation and interest rates at record lows – and the feelgood factor making a tentative comeback – forward-thinking retailers and traders will want to be ready to take full advantage of any benefit that the economic revival brings. In field sports, I’d suggest that this means offering your customers not only great service and the best choice of products available, but a range of flexible purchasing options too. While cash and cards will continue to account for the majority of lower-value transactions, traders should be aware of other choices available to them. Point-of-sale (POS) finance has

long been popular with retailers keen to empower their customers through alternative methods of financing their buying decisions. Once cumbersome and time consuming, POS now truly embraces the benefits of 21st century know-how. Digital technology is widely available, allowing retailers to return paperless, customercredit decisions in just seconds; acceptance rates through specialist lenders like Omni Capital are frequently higher than those from the banks, and same-day settlements straight to retailers’ bank accounts have become the norm.

A spread of options The finance packages available differ from lender to lender, but often include interest-free (0 per cent APR) and interest-bearing options. Offering your customers the choice of spreading the cost of purchases over a period of months can help your business in

a number of significant ways. Firstly, it can secure deals that otherwise might not happen because the full up-front price is out of the customer’s reach. Secondly, allowing customers to spread their outlay can lead to enhanced order values as they upgrade or add to their purchases. Thirdly, it can improve your allimportant cash-flow position. Of course, finance is not suitable for everybody – and to be able to offer credit to consumers, traders must first be approved and authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority, the regulatory body overseeing financial services in the UK. If this is something that you’re considering doing, we can help guide you through the approval process. At Omni Capital we will continue supporting British fieldsport retailers as we have since 2008. We have some interesting plans for this year, so watch this space.

10/10

This seemingly small yet tidy unit was set at the entrance to an industrial park just off the main road. It was well signposted and well presented.

Step inside?

10/10

A chime announced my approach and I was instantly welcomed and offered a free coffee! It was bigger inside than it looked, with more upstairs!

Stay clean?

10/10

This was a fairly new unit – and new enterprise – but in pristine condition. There was a further showroom and training/demonstration room upstairs, which were also immaculate; the smell of new carpets pervaded!

Show it off?

10/10

Nice touches such as the fish tank on the counter to demonstrate rigs and a television playing free DVDs on a continuous loop meant that there was something to watch while chatting over a cup of coffee, and it worked well. I had time to browse and was made welcome, while the shelving, pegboards and upstairs displays were easy to view, eye-catching and clean.

Help me?

10/10

The two lads running the premises were both keen to see their venture succeed, so, understandably, were only too pleased to help. When I asked about bigger items I was directed to the upstairs showroom, which contained a good display, and offered information about each in turn.

Know your stuff?

10/10

The proprietors were local anglers, so obviously had a feel for the tackle market in general, but also an extensive knowledge of the ever-popular carp scene and the very latest developments.

Pushy or pleasing?

10/10

I was left to browse and enjoy my drink and was also occasionally asked if I needed assistance, but no sales pressure was applied.

First impressions?

Step inside?

10/10

There were products available from much smaller companies, which don’t often get a look-in elsewhere, so it was nice to see an opportunity for competitors to get products placed alongside the recognised brands and, when customers asked, the merits of both were discussed. No unnecessary items were added to the mix; just good customer service and advice.

Family friendly?

7/10

I didn’t notice any starter kits, nor were ‘pocket products’ much in evidence, and the distance that the store is from the town centre may prevent youngsters visiting. Pricewise, there’s a huge variety on offer, so there really is something for all budgets. As more accounts are added, this section score may improve.

What’s happening and where?

8/10

Both know the local scene very well and were confident about advising on trips further afield to the Continent in search of carp. I asked about fishing for other species, and although the information was comprehensive, carp fishing is what the team knew best.

9/5100 54

This great little unit will improve further as new accounts are added. The use of an upstairs room offering space for shop days, or schools and clubs for awareness and training, is a stroke of genius, encouraging wider use of the shop and generating more custom.

8/10

I was greeted cheerfully and immediately noted the barrel of a naval cannon propped against the counter! The shop floor was fairly clear, and surrounded on three sides by counter space; not particularly noteworthy but a glance around showed some unusual armaments.

Stay clean?

6/10

A weather-beaten Formica floor that didn’t look overly polished and some tired paintwork gave the impression that an update would have been desirable. It wasn’t the tidiest of shops and would have benefited from some TLC.

Show it off?

5/10

I love the unusual, and a scoped Winchester piqued my attention, as did the cannon barrel and several other items, but it didn’t distract me from noticing that, aside from a couple of suspended airguns and crossbows, the other displays lacked any real impact.

Help me?

10/10

The gentleman who dealt with my enquiry was pleasant and polite and did his best to assist where required. He gave his undivided attention and was happy to leave his other tasks until I’d been seen to.

Know your stuff?

8/10

A fairly comprehensive explanation followed most of my questions. I did ask for some fairly searching technical specifications, and wasn’t too disappointed.

Pushy or pleasing? Do I need this?

7/10

I had to drive around a small industrial estate three times and ask directions. It does have an extremely large sign stating its business directly over the door but I believe it needs a roadside ‘A’ board! It is marked with small laminated roadside signs off the main road but is still tricky to locate.

10/10

The chap was not at all pushy. In fact, we conversed quite easily when discussing a potential sale and I felt comfortable with his patter.

Do I need this?

7/10

I offered a budget, which was immediately swallowed by a combination recommended almost instantly; was this the bestseller or one that couldn’t be shifted? In truth, I felt that there were better options but these were not suggested and this gun became the focus of the potential sale, which disappointed me.

Family friendly?

6/10

A reasonable selection of shotguns, airguns, archery equipment, crossbows and a small array of accessories provided a good choice for all the family. However, I didn’t notice any clothing at all, and, unfortunately, nothing specifically aimed at ladies or youngsters.

What’s happening and where?

10/10

I asked about tuition and safety training and was provided with details of a number of shooting grounds and qualified instructors.

7/7100

This represented a reasonable visit, with some interesting exhibits, but nothing that really made it stand out above the rest.

WIN a Harvey gilet

This month’s highest-scoring retailer wins a Harvey gilet from Baleno, supporting progessive retailing. * Secret Shopper is conducted by independent researchers and not by sponsors.

First impressions?

7/10

This was basically an unobtrusive add-on to a garage off the main road. Easy to find, even it was in an unusual setting, the building comprised a garage, a general shop and a gunroom all together in one block. It looked a little dated and didn’t have the brightest shop front I’ve seen.

Step inside?

7/10

I rang the doorbell only to see another door open and a gentleman invite me inside. The one I’d been knocking on was actually barricaded from the other side, which was a little confusing, but the chap was congenial enough so I followed him in. The shop floor was ‘busy’ and it was a bit dark.

Stay clean?

0/10

No. The place was covered with a thick layer of dust and it was obvious that some stock hadn’t moved in months, if not years. The floor was covered with grime, dust, muck and other crud, and shelves were well coated. Much of the stock was in boxes on the floor and I didn’t dare lift any corners! Even the counter was covered with old ledgers and other flotsam.

Show it off?

1/10

There were a few airguns displayed on relatively clean boards and the gunroom door was open enough to allow a glimpse of an untidy array of guns and rifles. Most were covered with dust, or presented haphazardly in boxes on any available floor space. A redeeming display of boots looked to be fairly new but, this apart, get the duster out if you want a closer look.

Help me?

6/10

The gentleman in charge was amenable enough and keen to show where various items were, but not so keen on picking anything up! He had a pleasant attitude, although his colleague, who was busy on the telephone, didn’t interact at all.

Know your stuff?

10/10

The guy was very relaxed, with his elbows on the counter/ledgers and just happy to chat along as we discussed a purchase.

Do I need this?

First impressions?

2/10

A complete lack of windows and a cloak of dull blue paint gave this place the look of a Cold War bunker, which wasn’t helped by the galvanised (sharp) railings and bollards surrounding it. A lack of lighting made it appear closed; it seemed very uninviting – external signage was the only clue.

Step inside?

2/10

Picking my way over numerous packaging, boxes and unnecessary rubbish, I passed through security scanners and entered. The uninviting atmosphere continued, with surly staff staring from behind the counter... I was ackowledged by someone but I’m not sure if they were staff or a fellow spy!

Stay clean?

2/10

It was a shambles: packaging discarded on the floor, boxes just split and left on the shop floor, dust, tape and other rubbish in almost every corner and the dark-coloured interior behind the counter made it very gloomy.

Show it off?

5/10

Good numbers of product boards were packed with items, shelving was well stacked and rod racks were easy to browse. However, there was stuff scattered haphazardly across the floor – more of a trip hazard than an inspection invite.

Help me?

3/10

Some staff wore branded clothing but others didn’t and I wasn’t sure who to ask – the counter seemed well defended with stacked product. Eventually my earlier contact sidled up and asked if he could help, but I still didn’t know if he was part of the team or expected a code word from me…

Know your stuff?

8/10

When I did pin down a staff member, he gave me enough information to make an informed choice and appeared up to date with developments.

10/10

The fella seemed knowledgeable enough to me; I got the expected answers to my questions along with some welcome additional input.

Again, I was put under no sales pressure to buy additional items but the chap did suggest buying a dive bottle or pump as part of the initial deal rather than offer to get the intended rifle charged in the shop or elsewhere.

Pushy or pleasing?

3/10

The staff certainly weren’t pushy but not very pleasing. After the briefest of interaction, I picked up my items, paid and left without much discussion or a fond farewell.

Do I need this?

10/10

I listened to a chat between a customer and someone in a Fishing Republic top. In fairness, the customer was given a number of options and the staff member demonstrated other items that would work just as well or offer a better choice to suit the budget, and didn’t try to extort further spending.

Family friendly? Family friendly?

5/10

I wouldn’t take juniors in without a ready stock of baby wipes for afterwards. It wasn’t ideal for pushchairs and the like but the adjacent shop (which was much cleaner) had enough sweets and comics to entertain children while adults could browse elsewhere.

What’s happening and where?

10/10

It excelled here with a vast amount of information supplied and directions were even written down and explained for me.

6/3100

It was a friendly enough shop with plenty of available advice, but it desperately needed a good clean.

8/10

There was parking space outside and plenty of tackle on display, which included everything from top-named brands to bargain-bucket deals and everything in between, so something for all pockets.

What’s happening and where?

4/10

I asked about a good fishing spot in the area, only to be jokingly (I think) advised to “… move out of Manchester,” which I thought neither professional nor particularly informative. I was finally advised of several nearby commercial venues but had to push for a reputable club to consider.

4/7100

Unfortunately, this is by far one of the most uninviting premises I’ve visited so far. I was watched suspiciously from entering to leaving, not made to feel particularly welcome and contact with customers was minimal.

Zap’s best-selling fishing flexible superglue is now available on cards of five small tubes, meaning that anglers no longer have to open a big bottle, which, due to the active ingredients, can go hard inside six months. Instead, anglers can now open one small tube at a time, so the purchase lasts longer, although each tube can still be resealed with a screw top and used until empty. Or why not keep tubes in different bags?

Stocking the right range is easy With more product lines than ever, Range Right is a go-to supplier for pretty much everything your shooting shop will need.

O

ver the last few years shooting distributor Range Right has grown significantly, adding more key brands and expanding into more and more sectors. The Harrogate-based firm’s 2015/2016 catalogue is more comprehensive than ever. Compare it to the previous one and the growth is self-evident. Indeed, this year’s issue boasts a whopping 20 extra pages, all containing some of the latest products and brands available. The top brands available would take a long time to list but they include Abbey Gun Care, Barnett, Bear Grylls, Crosman, Gerber, Gunpower, Hammerli, Walther, HSF, Kral, MacWet, RWS, Sabatti, Salvinelli, Sig Sauer, Umarex and Weihrauch, along with Range Right‘s own Solutions brand.

Geared up Of course, most dealers will be keen to know “what’s new?” and Range Right does not disappoint.

74

Sig Sauer’s .22LR models in three options are sure to generate some interest, as is Sabatti’s Rover Tactical centrefire rifle. One key talking point will undoubtedly be the Salvinelli Monarch and Duke shotguns, which perform as well as they look, combining modern techniques with traditional craftsmanship. Walther’s Rotex bolt-action PCP air rifle is an eye-catcher, as are additions to its CO2 pistol range and additional finishes to its Colt M45 pistols. Crosman’s Nitro-Piston MTR77 and TR77 airguns also make an appearance in the catalogue, boasting tactical styling and complete with CenterPoint 4x32 scopes.

For those keen on boosting the ladies’ market there is even a pump-action pellet and BB gun, the AG9, available in pink. The AirForceOne brand has been gathering pace of late and it has a selection of airguns at good prices, but perhaps the biggest news here is the launch of the AF1 Tyson bullpup-style PCP, the AF1/15 sidelever model and the already award-winning Trophy CO2 target pistols. More Sportsmatch scope mounts mean even more options for your customers, while Clulite offers its Trio pro gun light package with three interchangeable coloured heads. A real coup for Range Right are the top-quality Vortex Diamondback binoculars made from aircraft-grade aluminium, with fully multi-coated lenses for great light transmission and argonpurged for the ultimate in fog- and waterproofing. The biometric safes – for both guns and ammo – have also been a talking point for retailers and customers alike and

there is a great selection on offer. Of course, Range Right has also been making headway with its own-brand, Solutions, covering key items that it knows will sell well. It has now added more waterproof gun cases, for everything from rifles and shotguns to pistols. Rugged and airtight, these are available in a range of sizes. Meanwhile, alongside leading brands like Barnett, Petron and Armex, the firm also has Solutions archery gear, including starter kits. Add in further products to the extensive HSF clothing range – including green and tweed gilets and jackets plus the camoupatterned Trend hoody and jacket and you have even more reasons to choose Range Right for your orders.

OPINION

Sean O’Driscoll

Making the right decisions

T

hank you to everyone who sent in your best wishes to the team at DHP following the death of David Hall. We held a service that I believe David would have been happy with and if he were looking down from above then he would have been chuffed with the turnout. He was one of those who wanted his life to be judged by the number of people that turned up at his funeral. The fact that it was the biggest service that the crematorium has ever held, and it was standing room only for many, would have met David’s expectations. For me it wasn’t until I saw the coffin being carried in that the reality of the situation actually struck home. The man who had been an important part of my life for some 15 years was gone and the full responsibility for running the business was handed over. David’s widow, Cherry, will continue to own DHP and I shall meet with her regularly to update her on the company. Being in this position makes you realise the daily pressures that all those who own businesses have. Every decision YOU make will affect the business in some way, no matter how small that decision

might be. You are responsible for your own livelihood but, more importantly, if you employ staff, their livelihoods. The decisions you make will have a direct bearing on their futures. When David was alive I always knew that, ultimately, he would have the final decision. So if it went wrong, it was HIS decision. This didn’t stop me making decisions but it was his company so his overall responsibility. It doesn’t matter if you are a one-man band or heading up the largest companies in the shooting and fishing industries, that ultimate responsibility is yours. I am sure that a small-shop owner faces the same issues (although

on a different scale) to that of the owners of our largest players. Making important decisions is perhaps the hardest thing to do in business because you are always thinking about the consequences, but you have to be brave. You can’t offload the decision-making process because you don’t want the responsibility. It is YOUR responsibility! This is the biggest change that I have experienced since David passed away. It has given me massive respect for all you ladies and gents out there who have this overall responsibility. Many of you have been doing it for years, through the bad times as well as the good. The sacrifices and personal investment in time, money and emotion cannot really be measured. I now fully understand what you go through on a daily basis and I can’t praise you enough for what you do for your business and the people you employ. The people who own the businesses by and large run the fishing and shooting trades and we have to be grateful for what each and every one brings to the table.
