Sequence of Events for Successful Candidates Joining H&R Transport Ltd Once you have received a job offer from H&R Transport Ltd, you will be offered a start date and should expect to receive the following: An employment contract, including any amendments specific to the job offered. An application letter to apply for a Temporary Work Permit on entry to Canada. A money order to cover the cost of the Temporary Work Permit. A Labor Market Opinion form. A flight for the driver into Canada to be paid for by H&R Transport. These will be provided in good time so that you can prepare for the big day. Once you have landed at the Calgary airport, you should collect your baggage and then proceed though passport control and into the Immigration Department. Once there, you will present the Work Permit Application, the LMO and the money order to the Immigration Officer who will prepare and activate your Temporary Work Permit. If you are bringing family to Canada at this time, your spouse is now able to obtain an open work permit (at a cost of $150) which will allow them to take up employment without the LMO restriction. The work permit will expire on the same day as the principle Temporary Work Permit. Any dependent children under the age of 22, can request a Visitor Permit which allows them to stay in Canada until your Temporary Work Permit expires. Children are not allowed to accept employment with a Visitor Permit, but children under the age of 18 will be allowed to attend primary and secondary school. Once you have cleared Immigration, you will then make your way through to Arrivals where you will be met by a Company Representative who will be carrying a sign that says “VRV Global”. You will then be driven from the Calgary Airport to Lethbridge. Accommodation will be booked by H&R Transport; the cost of this accommodation will be the responsibility of the driver. There will be a number of requirements that you must meet before you can commence your employment with H&R Transport. Once these have been completed, you will be invited into the Company and from then on you will be earning an income. Administration Day The first part of the induction process is usually done on the first working day after you are booked in at the hotel. This consists of a full day of being escorted around by a Company Representative, where you will complete drug screening, a medical examination, obtain a Canadian driving license and set up a bank account. It will be your responsibility to cover the cost of these items; although, they do not have to be paid on that day. They will be included and itemized as part of your training bill which is payable at the end of your driver training. This is a list of what will be covered on your first orientation day: Application for Provincial Medical coverage (Alberta Health Care)

Drug and Alcohol Screening test Visit to Provincial Building to obtain Social Insurance Number Class 1 (Truck & Semi Trailer) Medical Examination Eye Examination Surrender of (home country) Class 1 Driving License and application for Canadian Driving License Setting up a Canadian Bank Account Note: Canada & United Kingdom has a reciprocal agreement on Professional Driver Licensing which means that a driver who holds a UK Heavy Goods Vehicle License can exchange their license for a Canadian License; they will automatically receive an Albertan Class 5 (full car license) as opposed to an Albertan Class 7, which is a provisional car license. Once the license switch has been made, the license details will be returned to your country of origin so that the licenses may be swapped back if at any time you return to reside in that country. If you had a motorcycle category on your original license, it will not be included on your Alberta license. This test will have to be retaken if you wish the category to be included. Please note that it is unlawful to hold more than one driving license in Alberta; therefore, your (home country) license must be surrendered before you can be issued an Alberta license. If you are immigrating with a spouse or partner (or children) who hold a UK car license they can switch it straight over. If they hold a car license from any other country, then the test will have to be retaken. While the applications are being processed, employees do not have an AHCIP number. However, they may still go to any doctor or hospital to receive medical attention. Any services used during this time will incur costs which will be your responsibility to pay. This is 100% reimbursable once the number has been issued. If needed, H&R will assist the employee with these fees. Some other options include having travel insurance before you enter Canada. This information can be obtained from any travel agent.
