PAST CONTINUOUS

• O past continuous descreve uma ação/situação que estava ocorrendo em determinado momento no passado

PAST CONTINUOUS • O past continuous descreve uma ação/situação que estava ocorrendo em determinado momento no passado • Essa ação pode estar associada a outros conhecimentos do passado

PAST CONTINUOUS • Exemplo:

While Janet was traveling in Europe, she met her future husband

SIMPLE PAST

PAST CONTINUOUS • Exemplo:

I was cleaning the house when he called me

PAST CONTINUOUS ação que estava ocorrendo (past continuous) é associada a um outro acontecimento ou ação, é comum que essa ação seja colocada no

PAST CONTINUOUS • Essa associação NÃO é obrigatória • O past continuous pode ser usado em uma oração por si só, sem se relacionar com outros tempos verbais

PAST CONTINUOUS • Exemplo:

Where were you? I was studying at the library

PAST CONTINUOUS

• O past continuous é formado pelo verbo to be no passado (was, were), seguido do verbo principal na forma -ing

PAST CONTINUOUS • Lembre-se: A –ing form é obtida acrescentando-se a terminação –ing ao verbo no infinitivo (sem o to) Ex: to work

PAST CONTINUOUS • Exemplos:

I was crying during the movie I was sleeping when she knocked at my door

PAST CONTINUOUS - NEGATIVE

• A forma negativa do past continuous é formado pelo verbo to be no passado (was, were), seguido da negação not, seguido do verbo principal na forma -ing

PAST CONTINUOUS - NEGATIVE • Exemplos:

She was not listening when the teacher called OU

She wasn’t listening when the teacher called

PAST CONTINUOUS - NEGATIVE • Exemplos:

We were not running at the park yesterday OU

We weren’t running at the park yesterday

PAST CONTINUOUS - INTERROGATIVE

• A forma interrogativa do past continuous é formado pelo verbo to be no passado (was, were), seguido do sujeito, seguido do verbo principal na forma -ing

PAST CONTINUOUS - INTERROGATIVE • Exemplos:

Were you sleeping when I called you? Was he watching the game when the power went off?
